Found many years ago

on Big Pine Key. Made from the Busycon Perversum

or more commonly know as the Lightning Welk.

These tools were utilized as picks or hammers

and have evidence of wear on the distal end of the columella.

Note the cut out in the aperture and the round hole to accommodate the

Probably Calusa made, but these can date back to as far as 4,500 years before present.

Compartmental Tray

  Length: 5"

  Height: 2"

 Calhoun Co. Florida

Comments: This extremely rare pottery

vessel was found in the Apalachicola River Basin.

Similar to the ones pictured in C. B. Moore's Book.

Use was possibly ceremonial. Perhaps to hold paints in

each compartment. One half of one of the pedestal feet

was missing and has been professionally restored. These are

considered exotic forms and are highly collectable if you can

ever find one for sale. I have just seen one other one ever

offered for sale. This from my personal collection.

 Bone

Only a few rivers in the southeast have produced

socketed Bone Projectile Points, Hairpins, Fishhooks and Daggers.

Because they are organic most have decomposed long ago.

These are getting rarer every day with good examples like these becoming especially scarce.

Collectors should have at least one good frame of these while their prices are currently not reflecting their rarity.

These Artifacts has been preserved and are ready for display in your collection.

Bone Awl

       5"

Putnam Co. Florida

Comments: Nice Awl

still showing the tooling marks

on it. Unusual groove has been cut

into the top. I suggest that this was to

be a hairpin but was not finished. If the craftsman

had went ahead and cut this part off it would have

the slender appearance of a Hairpin. Perhaps too

much of the length was gone to pursue that

objective or perhaps an Awl was the the

more urgent need at the time.
