Horse Cannon Bone
11 3/4" long
Pleistocene
Lafayette Co. Florida
Comments: Horse leg bone.
Two things are interesting about this fossil.
In the 3rd picture you can see where
the animal survived a broken leg.
The Calcium build up tells the tale.
The 2nd point of interest is pictured in photos 4 & 5.
The marrow was drilled out. Not typical of bones
that are broken by humans to extract the marrow.
This is evidence of this bone being used as a tool,
perhaps a large handle. The bored hole goes
in for 9 1/2 inches and is circular and smooth.
I found this in the Suwannee River.
